Roccaverano
11:10 Arrival in the village of Roccaverano.
We suggest that you park the car and take a walk and enjoy the village, and then go up to the tower which is free to visit. The tower is impossible to miss and is located in the middle of the village.
Climb the tower!
Roccaverano is the highest village in the area at 759 m above sea level and is located 26 km southwest of Acqui Terme. In the village there is a nice tower that is 35 meters high that is free to climb. However, there are no normal stairs up, but you climb some parts on ladders that still have quite good railings.
Here you have a 360° view of the area and a magically beautiful view. We promise a visit to the tower is really worth the effort!!

12:00 Lunch at Osteria del Bramante
Just below the tower there is a good and nice restaurant Osteria del Bramante. They usually have several dishes that contain the local goat cheese Robiola which originates from this very village.

Canelli
14:00 Arrival in the town of Canelli
The journey to Canelli from Roccaverano is 26 km and takes 35 minutes.
Canelli is located in a bend of the Belbo River in Alto Monferrato, close to the border with the Langhe. The area around the town is rich in vineyards.
This is a cozy town with small alleys and piazzas that you can wander around and visit. If you want to take a little longer walk and explore "La Stërnia aka" (in English "Lovers Lane"). This old cobblestone walkway connects the historic center of Canelli with the Gancia Castle at the top of the hill, which runs through the Villanuova district. Here you walk/climb along narrow hairpin bends and pass stone houses, colorful houses and small orchards, which creates a charming atmosphere.
From the upper parts you then have a really nice view of Canelli and the surrounding area.
On our way up on the street "La Stërnia aka" ("Lovers Lane").
Underground Cathedrals of Canelli
Underneath Canelli are numerous and long underground tunnels and cathedrals carved between the 16th and 19th centuries, truly comparable to sacred places, especially for wine enthusiasts. Inside, ideal conditions are maintained for storing the finest wines and sparkling wines, with constant humidity and temperatures around 12-14 degrees Celsius.
Today, the most prestigious brands from famous Canelli vineyards mature in these underground cathedrals, which are exported all over the world.
Book a guided tour
We suggest below places where you can combine a visit to the underground cathedrals with a wine tasting.
