Trisobbio

Excursion to the village of Trisobbio

This is a trip that can be done in a few hours and is located in our near area. The village of Trisobbio is a very beautiful classic Italian village on top of a hill in the area which also has one of the most picturesque castles in the area.

It is 14 km and takes 20 min to drive.

Between Acqui Terme and Ovada, in the heart of the Alto Monferrato wine-growing landscape, the medieval village of Trisobbio rises 300 meters into the air, on top of a hill overlooking the surroundings.

The urban structure of the town consists of three concentric circles, ornate stone facades of the properties in the village. At the top of the village you will find the stunning Trisobbio Castle at its highest point, in the geographical center of the village.

Trisobbio Castle (Castello di Trisobbio)

Trisobbio Castle dominates the medieval village from the top of the hills of Alto Monferrato and is one of the most visible and recognizable landmarks in the urban structure of Trisobbio.

The existence of a fortification on this site is documented since the beginning of the 13th century, although the original appearance was simpler than its current form.

Over the centuries, the structure has been modified and expanded several times to adapt to different uses and meet the needs of different noble families. At the end of the 19th century, after a period of precarious condition, restoration work began, coordinated by the architect De Andreade, which contributed to the external appearance we see today.

Today the castle is often used for larger parties and events such as weddings.

It is free to roam around the village and you can even go up to the castle itself. However, they usually close the gate to the castle when they have events such as weddings (often on the weekend).

There are only a few places that offer coffee or something to eat in the village. We usually have coffee at "Bar Osteria Da Nanu" the red house in the picture here.

We have also understood that the restaurant "L'Alfiere Ristorante Pizzeria" has good ratings, however we have not tried this place ourselves. Check the opening hours before you plan to visit the place.
