The blue grape Nebbiolo is probably the noblest of all the grapes grown in Piedmont. Nebbiolo is also behind some of the most famous wines from Italy, which are the Piedmont wines Barolo and Barbaresco. The grape has been grown in northern Italy since the 13th century. It is believed that the name comes from the Italian word "nebbia" which means fog.
Something that really fits with the Nebbiolo grape is the famous expression "what grows together goes together". Try Nebbiolo with local dishes such as a truffle pasta, risotto, local cheeses or just local charcuterie. The high tannins in the wine mean that it also works excellently as a meat wine.
