Azienda Agricola Poggio Matteo is located in the village of Castel Boglione near Acqui Terme. It is a very small village and on the hills behind the village is the Poggio vineyard. It is a winery dating back to 1899 so they have a long tradition of producing wines.
The vineyard is located at an average of 400-450 meters above sea level, resting on the gentle hills between Langhe and Monferrato. Thanks to the exposure and altitude, they can grow both white and blue grape varieties.
One of our favorites is their red still wine Briccoleo which is a Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG. They are a supplier to many restaurants in the area and that is also how we discovered their distinguished wines.
Poggio also makes a really good Alta Langa (sparkling wine) which is made from 100% Pinot Noir and has an aging time of 30-36 months.
If you want to be sure of getting a test on site, it is best to always make a booking for the wine tasting.
Below is a link to the website with contact details and more info about the winery.
From our vineyard it is 16km and takes 22 minutes by car to Poggio.
